Well, this was a job that we put off for quite a while - as the name implies, we had to do some work on the black tank - ugh! The flush valve quite working a looong time ago, and we've made due with running water down the toilet, filling the tank a few times every time we dump. While this works, it's not ideal. Then, to add to it, the black tank valve started leaking a little bit. Fortunately, we had already made the decision to add an external gate valve to keep from getting any leakage surprises a long time ago, so we were safe there...but, the black tank had a constant slow trickle, which is not ideal for keeping enough water in it to make it drain correctly. So we bought a couple of things - a new valve, and a new type of flush, and got to work. Cedar Creek puts nice plastic panels under the fifth wheel, so it's easy to open up and doesn't require any cutting of the coroplast put on most trailers. Once open, it was just a matter of pulling the insulation down and getting to work. Of course, draining and rinsing the black tank is a must, and about halfway thru the job, I ended up lifting the rear of the trailer to stop the little trickle that we had. Having done this once, one of the lessons I learned is that I should have drained all the tanks, so that I could loosen the bolts holding the grey valves and get a little more play in the pipes. Didn't consider this, and it caused a little suffering trying to get the valve out and back in. When it came to the flush valve, it was plugged because the holes in it were tiny. I was going to put a Tornado in to replace it, but it was kinda.....well, I didn't think it would last long. That, and the hole for it was too small, and in a really awkward place to enlarge, so I just fixed the old valve. You would not believe how much crap (literally) came out when I flushed using the new and improved sprayer! It's been a month or so since these were fixed, and they work great and there's no leaks, so I think we're good!
