The Washington County Sheriff's Office provided an update on the recovery of Deputy Charles Dozé on Wednesday. Dozé was shot seven times on July 26 while serving an eviction notice at an apartment in Tualatin. Dozé remains at a local hospital recovering from his injuries. He had surgeries on both of his elbows Wednesday, and officials say he has multiple surgeries ahead of him. Officials say Dozé was shot three times in his upper torso, and each one of those bullets was stopped by his body armor. He was shot once in each of his arms, breaking his left and right humerus bones, and also shot twice in the head. Dozé lost his left eye and multiple teeth from one of the bullets that struck him in the head, and the other bullet left a graze-wound six inches down the right side of his head. Dozé's daughter, Kaela, said she and her mom were out of town when the shooting happened, and as they rushed back, her brother was with her dad and helped make those initial decisions about removing the deputy's eye and teeth. Kaela said her father can still use his dominant hand, walk and there was no brain damage. "It missed his brain. It went through the top, behind his eye, and out through the top of his jaw, and then out through the right side of his jaw," she said. "Do you know how lucky he is? Like, that in itself is a miracle. For him to be talking the night that I arrived is just a miracle in itself." The Washington County Sheriff's Office continues to get inquiries from the community and the public about donating money to help Deputy Doze and his family. The Washington County Police Officer Association has set up the only approved GoFundMe for Deputy Dozé. WCSO says additional donations can be made through any US Bank location. Please provide customer service with Deputy Dozé’s name and that you are donating to his charity account. No other deputy was hurt in the shooting. The sheriff's office says the suspected shooter, Kristafer Graves, inside the apartment died at the scene. The district attorney's office has scheduled an autopsy to determine if Graves was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound or something else. At least one deputy opened fire. _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: KATU on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/katunews KATU on Twitter: https://twitter.com/KATUNews Subscribe to KATU on YouTube: /channel/UCmDTerxNU_gvCWLkIPkqghA/ Daily News Playlist: /playlist/PLFtHM_AbvnEUkd_YRTlZpGKkbczT5w062 For more information, visit https://katu.com/ Have a news tip?
